Net metering is when you have PV Panels on your roof, when you’re at work excess powers is sold to the power company, at night you use those credits. Some say the power company is "the battery"
People use much less power at night. Your system is designed so you owe now money at the end of the year. During the day you make power for your house, but when you leave the house excess power is credited, by the power company and sent to your neighbor for use. Power consumption is much greater during the day than at night with businesses, air conditioners, etc.
Not sure of the numbers but you are addressing it correctly . The day time panels reduce the day time demand and the plant can run without " peak " production . Every bit of power the small units produce is less that will be on the demand .
